GPA Recognized by Mayor's Office in San Martín Jilotepeque, Guatemala

On a recent site visit to Guatemala in May 2015, GPA's Small Grants Director Monika Jarosz and the Executive Director Stacey Ramirez were recognized by the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of San Martín Jilotepeque for helping to bring clean water to 100 of the 179 rural communities in the area, through the Small Grants Program over the past two years. By installing water filters at the water source, approximately 50,000 people now have access to clean water. Our goal is to ensure that all the 179 communities soon have clean water, a major factor impacting the health and wellbeing of children in poor communities who often suffer from gastrointestinal illnesses from waterborne causes. The program involves the communities themselves who participate in the installation and are trained on maintaining the systems, the Municipality, which pays for a portion of the installation and filters, and GPA which provides financial and technical assistance. If you'd like to help, please contribute to our Small Grants program and help us bring clean water to thousands more!
