GPA strives to maximize the impact of each donation. Because our overhead costs are low, more funds go directly to benefit women and children in the developing world. When you make a gift donation in someone's honor, GPA will send a greeting card with a photo and a description of the project you are supporting. Select a gift from the following projects, or designate your own amount to go where it is needed most. All contributions are fully tax-deductible.

Each gift of $25 will go toward the creation and distribution of health education materials in remote communities in Mexico and Guatemala, where information in the native language is rarely available. Help us teach women and children about safe pregnancy, nutrition, and sanitation through culturally appropriate books, posters, and DVDs.
In a region where most births take place at home without a doctor, skilled midwifery is critical to the survival of mothers and babies. Your gift will provide a midwife in rural Chiapas, Mexico with special equipment for prenatal monitoring and a safe delivery. Each kit minimally includes: a stethoscope, gloves, scissors, fetal monitor, surgical thread, tweezers, nasal aspirator, and manual. This gift could help save the life of a mother or child.
3. Access to safe water ($85)Diseases from lack of clean water cause over 7,000 deaths per day in children under 5. In rural Guatemala, thousands of indigenous Q’eqchi families, displaced by war, live without a safe water supply. Each gift of $85 represents 10 families who will gain permanent access to clean water through the construction of a communal well and installation of an electrical pump in the community of Vista Hermosa (right). A portion of this project also provides education for families, community leaders, and children about hygiene and water usage.
Traditional midwives in isolated communities have few opportunities to learn new, life-saving skills. Sponsor an indigenous community midwife from Chiapas to attend an 8-session training program in the regional center of Yajalón and bring the knowledge back to her community. Your gift covers the cost of transportation, instruction, and materials, and will ultimately help reduce childbirth-related death in the region.
5. Sanitation in rural Guatemala ($250)Exposure to human waste is a major cause of illness and death among children, particularly in rural areas where toilets are rare. $250 will help one Q’eqchi family build an effective sanitation solution: an ecologically-friendly household toilet that converts waste into 100% safe compost. Your gift will cover the cost of materials and training, and a portion will go toward an educational campaign on hygiene.
This gift will help up to 25 women learn life-saving midwifery skills in Chiapas, Mexico, covering the cost of the group’s instruction, transportation, accommodation, and materials for one of eight training sessions. In this region, formal training for traditional midwives is very rare, and when older midwives retire, new skilled midwives are needed to replace them. GPA is working to ensure that traditional midwifery is safe and available for generations.
