GPA was founded on a simple premise:
 

Empowering community-based healthcare will improve the health and lives of women & children, and reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths in poor, rural areas.  Advancing social justice, especially the rights of women and girls, and combating inequality are at the heart of all our programs.
